Record Unavailable for Change

Has anyone seen the following problem recently:

We have an end user that about 3 weeks ago started getting 'Sorry this Record is Unavailable for Change, would you like to Retry'. They have a number of users and most will be in SOP where this message appears more frequently but also one user gets it often posting within Sales Ledger. At the same time users also started getting File in use messages when updating reports within XRL

They do get the normal multi user locking error that occurs using the same record and this then releases fine but the above problem is causing issues

Pegasus was upgraded early January so not related to this. It seems to be some sort of file locking and their IT company adamant nothing has changed - we've asked for all the normal checks re AV etc.

At about the same time they have started creating works orders at the same time as sales orders but we have other sites do this and no-one else is logging any issues - for their own tests they are going to not do this for a couple of days to see if the message stops but not sure if this is the problem why a user posting a sales receipt would get the message

interesting - we've had this at a couple of sites which we have upgraded to 2.81.01. Get everybody out and back for quick fix. No other changes have been made on the network - we manage it

We have had 2 other sites log it within the same time frame but just one occasion (both after updating, one to 2.81.01 and the other to 2.81.02). This site was updated very early January to 2.80.50 and all been fine since until this started a few weeks back - latest upgrade not applied

We have two site that have recently started getting strange record locking issues but neither have been upgraded to 2.81 as they do not have payroll. We don't manage their networks but they are adamant nothing has changed, although we do know that the AV was changed on one of them. However, we have double checked AV exclusions are in place. Both sites have also experienced index corruptions in the same period which we are sure is not a coincidence but haven't been able to work out a cause.

We have had similar on a couple of sites.

On one it was tracked down to the AV being upgraded/changed and the Opera folders not being fully excluded.

On the others, bizarrely some files had randomly got their indexing or compression turned on. Which is very odd as on at least one of them I know it is disabled for the whole drive/partition. In the end we went through the process of resetting these options for the data and reports folders.

We still periodically see weird issues but they usually go away when the Microsoft SMB Redirector Caches are turned off on _every_ machine using Opera 3 (easiest with a Group Policy Object). We're reminded of this when a customer gets a new machine and we're not in control of the GPOs - have to re-request the third-party IT to re-perform the checks.

When it is on, the Opera 3-perspective symptoms range from people not logging out to masses of blank records being created.
