Batch upload extended descriptions stock ledger

Hi Guys,

I have a client who has information in a spreadsheet for each stock item and they would like to see the information on the stock record extended description area.

Does anyone know if these can be uploaded as a batch at all or would they need to copy paste them manually from excel to opera3? There is over 20000 items so manually would take a while.

You can import the information with the Importer module, however the field in Opera is cn_exten which is a Memo-type field, meaning that you would have to get the data into DBF format for import, because you can't update memo fields when importing from CSV.

Thanks Alan, I assume i will need a software to convert excel to dbf or could i import to access and export to dbf?

I find when exporting from Access to DBF, you get more reliable results by providing an empty DBF with the correct fields sizes etc, for Access to populate.

Yes, you can indeed use Access. It'll probably pull every Excel column in as varchar(255) or something, so I always then edit the field definitions in Access to match the dimensions in Opera.
