cant produce .xls files from opera 3

hi, i was just wondering if anyone had come across this before.

Outputting ANY report from ANY PC in ANY set of data to Excel doesnt work.

You select the Excel report from the drop down menu & then it looks odd as the file type isnt populated & the "open document when done" is not available

I thought at first it may be either the .FRX or .FRT was missing or corrupt, but theyre there. Dragged them across here & it works fine. Sent the files nack across & it fails

Uninstalled the client & resinatlled - still no change (its on all clients mind)

32-bit Excel ?

yeah sorry, I should have added that - 32 bit Excel. you can copy & paste from Opera into Excel, just it doesnt recognise the file as being xls. Im baffled why theire reports in demodata dont work on their system, wherase the exact same report does on mine!

You can try the below command line in Opera. You should get a value>0

wait window goapplication.NEXCELVERSION

If you get 0 I think Opera either can't do CreateObject("Excel.Application") or the XFRX feature is not enabled. See if the problem follows the OPERA.SYS

cheers Colin, their opera.sys works on my machine, as in it launches Excel fine. As above with alans command, my machine produces a "0", but theres comes up with an error message, so not really sure where to go with that as its on every client machine.

If you choose to publish a 'non XLS' report, does the drop down show the 'Excel Document' option (albeit greyed out)? If not, has publisher form been 'bespoked' in some way - just thinking that the option is hard coded and if it is missing, that might indicate some code is interfering (Alan/Colin would more likely know that better).

hi Tony, thanks for hte reply, no you dont get this option on his, whe nyou try & run a standard report, choosing Excel.

We were initiall told it was on ALL machines, but school boy error - never trust what the client says & Ive dialled onto someone elses machine & it just "works" - ill go to their IT people to see if they can do as Alan suggests an Office repair
