Budget EDIT Queue Management

Because of the budget edit process and setting of Budget edit to allow one process at a time, buyers are complaining that sometime the release of a PO may take 20 Minutes. The issue is many other activities are competing with the PO release process when they require budget edits. Examples, Invoice matching, invoice release, and others. Has anyone figured ways to minimize this conflict and ensure Purchase orders are released quickly? We have created jobs to run Auto matching and invoices release after working hours, but we are still experiencing the issue with GL related activities which must run in real time.

Hi @hatem-elkhashab - There are things you can do to improve the performance. However, "what" to change sort of depends on your organization. You'll want to edit some of the queues by changing the max active actions allowed and the priorities. Increase some and decrease others. We also created some custom queues and mapped actions and users to them and increased their priority. I've attached a spreadsheet of our queues and a screenshot of one of our custom queues. You mentioned the scheduling of jobs and that is important as well. Avoid Auto Match during heavy processing hours. For the GL activities you may want to identify who and what actions are taking so long then explore doing some new queue mappings and priorities for those. After a couple weeks of closely monitoring the bottlenecks and making adjustments I think you'll find a way to improve the performance. All tenants have a max allowed active actions. I don't know what yours is, but maybe that needs to be increased as well. That would require action on Infor's part and you may be met with some resistance for obvious reasons if you are a multi-tenant customer.

Is the hold up on the budget edit queue or the budget edit callback queue? This has been an area of concern for us in the past, but not as much since we started only using quick post during month end close, and just allowing all other entries to process via a scheduled posting job on the GL side. Since jobs are batched through the budget edit queue, there generally isn't a hold up in that queue, but sometimes those batch jobs take a little while to process through the budget edit callback queue (which is where the release action is performed). Since you can increase and decrease the max active actions on the budget edit callback queue, it's a little easier to manage as opposed to the budget edit queue which can only have one max active action.

Great point, @dslough . We increased our max active actions to 4 for that queue and increased the priority to High. We also do all of our batch posting overnight, but quick posting does occur during the day.
