what is everyone using to report the real shape of for example sheet metal or pipes in manufacturing

In a structure i normally have the base item as it is described in mms00123, but if i need a special shape of a certain sheet metal i cant just use the purchase article with 3x5 meter when all i need is a 0,30x 1,25 meter piece and if i want the shape to be included in the Shopfloor traveller attached to the item we currently use ATS120 to connect attributes like LxWxD to a certain component.

just wondering if there is a more elegant way to use actual measurements of items like sheet metal or pipes to reflect the part used in production without accumulating a very large item pool.

Item 0815 Sheet Metal ST35 3000x5000 would be the pruchase part

Item 0815 Sheet Metal ST35 30x125 would be the part used in production, cut from the bigger one..

You can use Textblocks on the Manufacturing order or Text fields (VHTXT1 and VHTXT2)

i am looking more for a functional approach rather than an informative, e.g. i would like that the ammount is also alocated and deducted from stock

Please note that allocation based of two or three dimensional measurements are very difficult to achieve and should probably be done via an purpose built optimization tool. Allocation in M3 is definitely not built for it so you need to test and validate what works and what does not work prior embarking that journey. Please also make sure you do not create a solution that will be difficult to maintain and keep accurate.

... is basically the main mantra of my work, i probably spend most of my M3 life fixing exactly this issue.

so the "standard way" around that issue so far was creating an extra item for every measurement combination, which can easily accumulate and clog the database over the years since most of those items are one time usage especially if its down to decimal places
