Searching and Finding Fields - List and Report Personalization

Several months ago we rolled out changes to make the list Options > Personalize > Add Field type-ahead and advanced searching both work better, be more feature rich and give better results, we think!

Did anyone notice?

Did it improve?

Is there anything missing or confusing, or major pain points now?

Also, we tried to make finding a field on a form and ctrl+shift+click there show you the field or access path to the field as well, for use in Personalization. Hoping that was helpful.

I like the Show Label vs Show Field option in personalizations. The Advanced Search for fields is great too, as well as, the ctrl+shift+click improvements. I think all of those enhancements were good decisions. I believe there are still some subtle challenges with typing in field names with case sensitivity, but I can't think of what they are off the top of my head. Also, when is it necessary to use Rel or not when linking to other business classes. Very straight forward when the field you want is in the same business class as the list view.

The updates made were noticed and have made it much more friendly. Has definitely been a positive change from me and my teams perspective.

Thanks Curt. Very cool. So you typically find what you need easily enough? And when you struggle, it's with what type of use-case, field or need? Or from what BusinessClass to where? Just curious if there is more we should do.

We have functionality coming that helps you "operate" on the field you want btw. For example, if the field you found is a Date or TimeStamp field we are giving you a UI to see and select all of the things LPL allows you to do with a Date or TimeStamp field type. Very powerful. And, you should need less Derived Fields to do this type of manipulation, it can be in-line.

Since the update, it is certainly easier to find the mappings by changing the levels to search through - that has been the biggest benefit that we've noticed. It was a good idea to provide multiple depth options however as the third often brings back 500+ results, exceeding the ability to display, and reducing effectiveness.

Until this update, I would never use the advanced search, finding it easier to hen peck through the potential relations. While not always finding what we're looking for still, it has helped find some field relations that may have otherwise alluded us.

Not sure how to describe the challenge now, but I'd describe it as a loop effect. The same field can be found through multiple relational paths, however not all work because they presumably loop back on themselves when expanding on the name.

In general, less derived fields would be great. This tends to be a challenge as the derived fields are not filterable. This is where a lot of time is spent on identifying the source field so it can be filtered on.
