Good day!
For your consideration for endorsement is my enhancement request for Printer Agent Auto Update functionality. Yes, as of January 2022 Printer Agent has update functionality, but I would argue that it is not in fact auto-update functionality as it requires a user to trigger it for every update. I would venture to guess that many of us are in the same boat -- we don't run Printer Agent in GUI mode on an actual computer that someone sits at and monitors day in and day out, but instead run it on a Windows Server VM in intranet land as a service hoping to never have to look at it again except to address hopefully infrequent issues. The current update functionality is as follows:
- in GUI mode, pop up a box that says an update is available, ask the user if they want it and if they click yes, update.
- in CLI mode, bury in the verbose log every 300 seconds that an update is available then the user can terminate the execution, re-run the command line with a -u switch to trigger the update, and then all subsequent runs must be without the switch as if the switch is used and the application is already up to date, it self-terminates.
As you can see, for those who run this constantly as a service our options aren't great and require manual intervention by either stopping the service, triggering the update and then starting the service again at CU end, or adding an "update service" and scheduling it at a time that you think the CU will be complete every month along with stop and starts of the normal service.
If you have a moment and think that allowing the -u switch to run continuously would be useful to your organization, please take the time to endorse my request here:
