File access is denied, or memo file missing in client temp folder

Hi this is a bit of a long shot & Im not expecting any replies, but we have a site that users a Virtual hosted Server.

Opera is installed on the C drive & 8 or so users dial ont the same server to access OPera

Only in the last week or so they have been experiencing error files in c:programdatapeagsuso3 client vfp emp - file access denied & a memo file is missing

We have asked their IT to check AV exclusions & have added "everyone" with full control, but theyre still geting them soradiacally.

If we go to Pegasus it will be an IT issue, when weve gone to thir IT they say its a Peagsis issue but cant think of anything lese what we can do!!!

If it was working fine until a week ago and Opera has not been changed then unlikely to be an Opera issue I would think!

What AV on-access exclusions are in place? Is there any sort of continuous backup solution or replication running? Is the Windows Search Indexer running and indexing that location ?

I would tend to use Sysinternals Process Monitor on the server, filtered to .DBF and .FPT files and see exactly what is accessing them other than OPERA.EXE

Cheers Alan,m yeah weve gone back to their IT several times & he hasnt been that helpful. Exclusions that are in place form an AV point of view are:

And the AV is Trend, something IM not that familair with - but Ill give the process monitor a go

Whenever I've had this its, been down to permissions, or AV scanning temp files as they are being created.

What are the local client folder permissions set to including subfolders and file, especially the TEMP folder as that is were there seems to be a problem.

The other thing I would try is log everyone out and clearing the contents of the TEMP folder NOT the folder (c:programdatapegasuso3 client vfp emp)

We've had terrible trouble with Trend in the past so the AV exclusions have to be spot on with it. Can you add in file type exclusions as well to completely rule it out?

Is the data path in Opera local or a UNC path? If it's UNC then you will need to add that into the exclusions too.

hi many thanks for the rpely. Yes everyone has full control on that folder & weve cleared every files out of there with people logged out. Were convinced its the AV, so were looking at that route again. thanks

hi thanks for the reply, yes uNC paths are included & weve got all opera folders we can think of eluding them, but its intersting what you said about tred & the file types - Ive gon back to their IT to add these in - many thanks

Some AV can cause issues even if exclusions are set, because the filter driver still gets a handle on the file. You might have to uninstall the AV client completely to verify.
