XRL going missing Office 365 2016

Hi All,

I have one user on a site whose XRL is not loading. The main part of the Add-in seems OK, but the COM Adding is not happy. The only error we can see is "A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in." then it unticks the Add-in.

I can't see anything obvious in event viewer

We have tried an uninstall and re-install of Office 365 2016 and XRL (1.74).

Windows 10

Dot Net 4.8 and 3.5 appear to be installed OK

The machine has been running XRL for years.

Any suggestions please, however simple. I may well have missed the obvious.

Hi Colin, did you get anywhere with this?

We have problems quite regularly with getting the XRL add-in to load and after checking the usual permissions to the

c:programfilesx86infor, c:programfilesx86pegasus and c:programdatapegasus folders are all full read/write, our engineers also then check the following registry key is set to load behaviour "3" which generally then works, might be worth a look at

"ensure that the load behaviour is 3 or Registry Key "ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddinsInfor Query and Analysis Add-in"

I assume that you have gone through the usual stuff like checking the release of Office, ensuring it is semi-annual, 32 bit etc as well as Claire's suggestions.

Other than the obvious, we did have one site where the upgrade of a server/RDS corrupted the Visual Studio 2005 and no matter what we did, the add-in wouldn't load. The answer was to fully uninstall XRL and Visual Studio 2005, and do a full, clean install. If you can use one of the registry cleaners before the re-install, that would likely help, also.

Just a thought...

I am at the stage where anything is up for grabs, so nothing too simple or obvious.

Just spotted the end user IT have installed different variants of Office on two machines adjacent to each other. The Click to run version doesn't work and the Apps for business which does.

Bit of a shame as I have never had much success with Click to Run and had asked for a full offline install to be done. mutter, mutter.

I will update if/when we bottom it out.

We are still doing battle with this.

The evidence seems to be pointing in this direction, although a complete uninstall and re-install (including Office) hasn't helped

if I get VSTO to display alerts, I get this

Hi Colin

When the Office2016 was reinstalled was the VSTO also uninstalled and re-installed? Seems to be complaining about the VSTO and I know that was controls the ADD-IN?

Thanks for your input.

The decision was taken to rebuild the PC.
I can confirm XRL is now working

Whilst we didn't bottom out the issue, my gut feeling is that it related to a .NET update causing corruption.
