Pegasus IX (Nine)

We've got an enquiry from a customer running, wait for it....... Pegasus IX!?! Could they be the last ones on the planet?

Anyway does anybody know anything about this product? Did it run on DOS/Unix/Windows? What was it written in? What was the file format etc? We might have to do some data conversion and I would like to know what we're up against!

Name doesn't ring a bell - do they mean Senior Version 9? If so then it had a proprietary file format so your best bet might be do try to use the reporting tools.

Hi Darren, It ran on Santa Cruz Xenix/386 & used an Informix SQL database. Came out in 1990. Totally different file structure to Single User/Senior/Opera. Can't remember if it had a Report Generator module. Good Luck!!?? Ali.

Seemingly it was written in C for Unix and the data resided on an Informix Database.

A bit more infomation given to me - Informix is still supported by IBM and there should be the capablility of exporting to CSV. The information held in the database should be similar to the layout used by Pegasus Senior.

My memories of it are Pegasus Senior ported via a code generator to C on SCO Xenix. I don't remember Informix or SQL, but only installed a couple.

I think there may be some oddity between the way C floating point numbers are stored and the way Quick Basic stores them. I know I wrote some conversion routines at one time.

Alan, no it was a completely different product. I think it even pre-dates Single User and Senior.

Ali & caz-owl, thanks for the great info. It should be an interesting project!!! If there's an ODBC driver for Informix I might even be able to get a remote view to it from VFP and suck some data out that way. Well here's hoping anyway....

Thanks for the additional info Colin. I'm hoping I don't have to get down that dirty and I can read the data via ODBC. I had a nightmare once getting numbers out of senior data files using low-level file access.

I think it was Microsoft Binary Format, where everyone else used the IEEE standard.

as the forgetery becomes clearer I remember one customer using reporter to export CSV to a DOS partition and then Lotus spreadsheets to crunch the numbers and format a decent report or two. I am also fairly certain I did some work on .DAT files with Quick Basic in the same way. Had to reboot server from DOS partition to get at it.

@Alan, yes that sounds familiar from the work I did with Senior.

@Colin, urgh that sounds ugly.
