Hello,
we've just implemented a best practice approach from Infor called "data reconciliation". This tool delivers insights in the OLAP database such as cube count, dimension count and hierarchy count. It also counts the number of elements or subsets within a dimension or the number of rules and values within a cube. The idea of the tool is to compare those values from a different point of time. E.g. the values from October 1st are compared with the values from October 12th. Changes in the values can be found easily by using the AppStudio report which is part of the tool. Of course it is not a qualitative check, since it only deals with the number of elements or values but not with the "meaning" of them.
Nevertheless, we implemented the tool in order to do some kind of monitoring of the OLAP database. Our idea is to find out whether for example values in cubes or cube rules go missing. But it delivers also some interesting information regarding how fast (or not so fast) a cube increases in size (regarding the values stored in the cube).
I just wanted to share this information with you just in case that someone else deals with similar questions ore does have similar requirement on an OLAP database monitoring.
My contact at Infor was Mr. Kriebernegg (Peter.Kriebernegg@infor.com).
