disabling 810 line number mapping

For those that have disabled 810 line number mapping for EDI invoices, are there any downsides to using this for all vendors?

It seems as though the line number mapping creates errors that wouldn't otherwise be an issue.
Anything I'm missing on matching on item instead of line number that I should aware of?
