Configuration: Making a field on a form editable

Hello, I was able to make a personalization field updatable on a list view and then make that into a configuration, however I can't seem to find the syntax of how to make a configuration inside of the form for a field. Right now in Billing when we enter an item, the description automatically populates but we would like to make that field editable. The work around right now is the configuration on the list view a page back.

Item's description can be updatable from the Item business class itself. Supply Management Setup -> Items -> Manage Items. The Description field is part of the Item business class, not related to billing.

Thank you Vikram for the suggestion but if I'm understanding your suggestion correctly, we know we can update the item description from the item business class, but we are looking to update the default description at the time of billing. For example, the item might be built as Copies, but the billing person wants to change it to Copies for December so when the description prints on the invoices it is more detailed.

I would suggest keeping that field just in case someone needs to search on the item description later but you can add a new field in Configuration Console and have that field populate on your invoices instead.

1. Go to Config Console > Start > Application

2. Click on Configured Business Classes and then click on the paper shaped button at the top

3. Add a User Field to that Business Class

4. Click on Configured Forms under that business class you just added a user field to and click on the paper shaped button

5. On the Form box, navigate to "Detail" and click OK

6. Click on Detail under Configured Forms and click on the word Configure in the top left

7. Click on paragraph and the click on the paper shaped button

8. Choose User Field and use the drop-down on *User Field to select the new User Field you just created and click OK.

9. Now navigate to the FSM screen for Invoice Line Details and you should now see your new field.

There are a few more steps to get it populated on your invoice but I can detail that out if necessary.

@jennie-granberg The Description field on BillingInvoiceLine Business class is a Persistent field. From the field's LPL, I see that it defaults (Laptop) from Item's description.

1. You have the ability to update the description (Laptop for Vikram) for this line item only on the BillingInvoiceLine Business class, this is an out of the box functionality.
2. If you want to update the Item's description field on Item business class (from "Laptop" to "Laptop for Vikram"), you will need to create an Exit rule on BillingInvoiceLine and invoke Update action on Item business class. This will keep the descriptions of both BillingInvoiceLine and Item in sync.
