Deviation Definition
kelly-degobbi
For some time now we have always pondered on the true definition and use of deviation within labor entry. In our environment when the part is punched and there are several parts remaining we deviate those. Roter calls for 100 and we punch 105. So we put in the 100 and deviate the 5. What I am also wondering if the costs for running the additional part calculated within the router?

We have similar questions with part deviations. It appears that Visual does not calculate the true cost of deviated parts (we call this "scrap"). We claim our scrap at each operation and then adjust them in and back out so that we have a true cost of scrap in our financial report. The problem with that is scrap is now the full cost of a finished part - regardless of what operation it was scrapped out in.
Does anyone have a better method for calculating scrap/part deviation cost?

are you splitting the work order? if so, make sure you are receiving in the split work order and then transacting it back out to a scrap code reason and a scrap GL acct. that will capture the true cost of the qty of scrap up to the operation that the scrap occurred at.
