Sacha,
I'd have to say it's ALMOST as good as XP so far for us - We have mostly XP machines, and the overall throughput on a Vista or Win 7 machine is nearly the same (provided of course you have better hardware resources in the Vista / 7 machines in comparison).
The only issue I see so far is graphics (which may just be my ATI drivers), but resizing windows and using the quick filter lags quite a bit compared to XP. Not sure if there's a driver issue or if the Visual executable is just an oddball, but the same results occur with Vista or the beta or RC of Win 7. Usable, just a bit slow. Other than that, performance appears nominal.
I used to be a Vista fan, but after using the RC / BEta of 7 (which is more stable / better performing in nearly every way), I'd have to say you should skip over Vista altogether and grab the Win 7 RC. It's an open release until 3/1/2010 (FREE), and will supposedly be available comercially Oct 22 of this year. Highly recommended.
