Financial Dimension Crosswalk For Posting

Can a department (one of our finance dimensions) that is being discontinued have a crosswalk setup in FSM so that when transactions post they post to the new department string? Instead of waiting months for existing transactions to complete and doing JE's on the back end we'd like to have the system recognize the finance code block and automatically move it to new structure when it posts. Thank you.

Infor does not currently have a feature to perform this action. In my past experience, I created Infor Spreadsheet Designer queries to pull out the detail transactions with coding to that specific dimension value and then replaced the value with the new value and uploaded the changes. I know this is a mid-range solution as far as efficiency, but it is easier than manually tracking each transaction and changing in screen. My suggestion would be to enter an enhancement request to see what we might be able to do. Please understand that this is not a simple ask as there are many distribution business classes that would be impacted. Another option might be to explore a user action. For this, you can work with Support to see what can be done.

I think Ron's on the right track with an ER. Would you have any concerns about creating a disparity between the originating transaction and the GL transaction?

You might be able create a Cross Reference table in Process Server or a User Business class to store the crosswalk and add action configurations to map that dimension based on the Cross Reference table, but that might require a lot of customization and could create additional posting issues.

For example, an unreleased expense invoice has an invoice distribution with the old dimension. Do you want both the invoice distribution and the related GL transaction detail dimension to be updated with the new dimension when it's released and posted?

it will depend on how you have build your crosswalk and your FEG. whether you are using AU ( accounting units) or dimension 1

if using AU:

for example in Legacy : Company 1, Department 1101 becomes on your x-walk department 2000

x-walk:

(Organizational Code) 1.1101 = Company 1, Department 2000

and after go live that department becomes 2000

then the system will always know that if there is any interface that comes with 1.1101 (organizational Code) will always be Company 1 , Department 2000

Creating a disparity would be an issue, so we'd want both the invoice distribution and the related GL detail to be updated. Good suggestion, but we don't have the experience in house to be able to pull that off. Even if we weren't concerned about the disparity, sadly, we wouldn't have the expertise to build a Process Definition for that.

Hi LL - We don't use AU in the FEG. Our setup utilizes Accounting Entity, Account, Project, and FinDim 3-7. Where does the crosswalk go that you are referring to?

I am not sure if this will work for your use case.

But we are using the FSM's allocation feature. This standard INFOR functionality basically allows you to move balances from an incorrect (in your case, old) Finance Dimension 3 to the correct Finance Dimension 3.

You need to setup the rules.

Agree this would reclass the GL data but it would not solve the "connection" with the AP distribution, for example, with the balance. Besides, the reclass may or may not occur in the same period as the original distribution, In my mind, there are so many possible points of failure here. Also, if you do move the GL only, what happens if someone makes a distribution change in AP to reverse the original distribution with a new one? That would create another negative distribution in the old string in favor of a new one in the GL. This AP distribution change will be posted potentially creating more complexity with synchronization and audit.
