Arcserve and Opera

Wondered if anyone had ever heard of this one. Have a site running Arcserve backup on a server 2012R2.

All was working fine, they had Opera II and all was fine. A previous consultant had installed a test version of Opera 3 ready to do an upgrade. This consultant moved on and before doing so did a registry hack or something which ensured that the Arcserve backup didn't crash with an Active Directory open error. This error only started after installing Opera 3.

And you've guessed it, I've now upgraded this site to the latest version of Opera 3 and migrated their system onto Opera 3 and the Arcserve has started giving errors.

Has anyone heard of anything like this and if so what did you do to fix it?
