Hi
How is everyone handling inventory shortages during sales order entry? Is anyone using LN's automatic handling options or promising lines?
Yes, we are using the Extended Inventory Check option, with automatic handling.
Thanks for the reply Peter, we are looking into using it and i'm looking for feeback or any gotcha's we might hit.
A little background on us that might help. We recently expanded our inventory warehouses from one to multiple warehouses. Now we are having to manually check inventory and change warehouses and this is now taking up way more time than expected.
How is it working for you?
Which automatic handling option are you using?
Are you using CTP/ATP?
Do you have someone or a job running "Check Inventory Sales Order" (tdsls4217m000) and Sales Order Promising Lines (tdsls4101m400)?
HI Jim,
our customers use that option too. THey have way too many warehouses to check them all separately. We just experienced, that you need to setup a quite good supply strategy, when you check stock automatically over several warehouses, but address just one WH within your sales order line. E.g WH1, WH2, WH3, and so on are in one cluster.
By grouping WHs into the same cluster, LN will check stock over all these WHs and will give you a soones available date (ATP check).
So when you have stock of your needed item in WH3, but in your sales order line you enter WH1, LN will give you a "GO" to ship asap, but you need to define, how stock is then transferred from WH3 to your desired WH1.
Otherwise you won´t get a shortage in sales, but warehouse will get a shortage message when trying to outbound.
Hope that helps and was not too comlicated to understand :-)
Best regards
Alex
Thanks Alexander, this is great feedback! This sounds like it will work for our needs but I will need to investigate warehouse clusters.
I do have a question. In your scenario, "So when you have stock of your needed item in WH3, but in your sales order line you enter WH1, LN will give you a "GO" to ship asap, but you need to define, how stock is then transferred from WH3 to your desired WH1." is there a way to ship directly from WH3 or does the inventory need to be shipped back to WH1 then shipped to the customer?
you´re welcome!
As far as we experienced, you/LN need to transfer the items to the needed warehouse. Otherwise you´d need to check the WH inventory (available from sales order line) and replace the WH manually. LN will not change the WH to the one where you have stock available.
If anyone here knows better, and LN DOES do that - please let us know, too :-)
Hi Jim,
We are using the option ATP when available (which can split the order line into 2 deliveries) or ATP when available -single delivery (no split of the order line). This is different in our site in Europe versus USA. There is no good or bad choice in this, it is more related to how customers historically were served and you also need to take into account a single shipment versus multiple.
We are occasionally running the job Check Inventory Sales Order. Typically in our business we receive product in full load containers and when a container has been received we run the job to see if deliveries can be pulled forward.
