Missing Document Reference

We use the Document reference system to point to drawings that are located on our network. The documents are almost exclusively created by our CAD/PLM.
What is happened is that old revision of documents have been removed from the network and the document reference has been deleted. Within Visual we copy over a EM to a work order and it is still looking for the old Document reference that is not longer available. This creates an error when we do this.
Is there a way to find where a Document reference is being called up in a work order? I think I can figure out how to do a where used on a document reference if it still exists but because it has been deleted I don't think I can do it.
The bottom line is I have to solve a number of problems with this and will work on it but would like a way of finding the deleted reference and removing it when it shows up.

in the eng mfg window, go to the EM you want to have the references deleted from, click on the header card, click on blue doc ref button on bottom of window, from there you can delete the docs from that EM. same goes for the work order
