Moving VISUAL over to a new (separate) server
unknown
I'm not at all sure if this is the right forum (or community) to pose this question, but...
To try and solve a response time and reliability issue on our computer network, our small company recently purchased and installed a new Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 in our environment. We would like to move our data from the current server (SBS 2008) over to the new server. We hope to use this second server to run VISUAL exclusively and have the current server handle MS Exchange and networking/Internet traffic, etc. We are running Visual Manufacturing 7.0.0 SP3. The new server also has SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. Can anyone please let me know the procedure involved in moving our database files and VISUAL over to the new server. Is it complicated? Is there documentation available for this type of operation?
Second part of this question is relates to the issue of running VISUAL 7.0.0 SP3 on new Windows 8 x64 desktops in the environment. Has anyone any experience with this? INFOR advises that 7.0.0 has not been certified on Windows 8 - does that mean they aren't going to test it?

Don,
Restore a backup of your databases to the new server. Then follow the instructions here:
support.microsoft.com/.../918992
to transfer the logins to the new server.
To the best of my knowledge (purely conjecture), Infor has not yet tested Windows 8 or 8.1 with Visual. It is not guaranteed that they will; they skipped testing Vista.
Best of luck,
Ben
