Create XML file from IPA

I need to generate a file out of IPA that needs to be in XML format. I've never done this before and I'm definitely not well-versed in XML. However, I have used IPA for several processes. This is the first request to generate an XML file. Does anyone have any information they could share that would help me to get started? I've been looking at the Infor documentation - but I'm struggling. We are on V10 on-premise - Windows/SQL Server. Thanks in advance - Laura

I've done a few XML output IPA flows, I prefer to use the XML node; if you have a sample output file or even better, a schema file (.XSD) then I recommend using the XML node and loading the schema file to handle mapping the values to handle the XML formatting.

If you have a sample XML file you can use the website https://www.freeformatter.com/xsd-generator.html to generate a XSD schema file. When you use the build part of the node you can then select and load your schema file which you can then map the output variables.

Side notes: If using a loop, make sure to append the output data to a variable that is set in XML format type, not a string. Should show this is in the console new XML() on creation and include .toXML() on assignment.

{} curly brackets are used to assign variables in XML nodes.

XML node requires closing tags for every section.

If appending a looped section to a main XML format you would then pass the appended output value to the XML object.

In this example below, I am adding all the employee demographic data from the previous XML node to the main record. (same with paycheck records) The result creates header records then have a repeating section(s) below.

If your output only needs to be simple XML, then you could try generating your output as CSV. Then use the JSON Converter node to first convert CSV to JSON, then from JSON to XML. Your CSV would need to have a header row.

Thank you - I will check that out. It is just a simple extract of a few fields from the APPAYMENT table.

Any other approach will require the use of Javascript.

I created the CSV file within the flow - it's a file with a header and 2 detail lines. The CSV file is written to our LSF server in the work directory. I'm trying to use that as the data to convert to the JSON Converter Node (CSV --> JSON) and I keep getting the error - "Requires more than 1 row in the CSV data to continue process". Any thoughts? Thanks

I have some additional information. We updated the flow to have the two JSON nodes - one for CSV--> JSON and one for JSON --> XML. They work only if we copy/paste the actual data into the node - but they don't work if I try to pass a file path/name to the JSON nodes. It seems as if I'm doing something wrong so the JSON node isn't recognizing the file or the location of the file? How do I upload the sample flow here?

HI Richard - thank you very much for your help - I ended up going with the route you suggested - create the CSV file, go from CSV --> JSON and then JSON --> XML. I figured out what was wrong when I was getting the "requires more than 1 row" error - I was trying to pass the JSON node a file path/name and I needed to pass either actual data or a variable. I really do love how helpful this community is!!

Same here please. i'm trying to create an ipa that takes data from different nodes and uses the XML node to create the data and loop until all the records are completed with one XML file showing all records it created. I've looked for a similar example on infor campus and youtube but no success unless i'm missing it. my email is nramos@unitedtexas.com

i am sure i'm missing something here but i create XML variables and yet i cannot get the box for 'Append output to:' to ever populate the variable i created. Do you have a sample file you could send me maybe? or know of a document that better details this use of the XML node? nramos@unitedtexas.com i'm creating an XML file but the header and footer are repeating for every record rather than once at the start and once at the end of the file.
