Planning time fence and system calendars

Hi,

On the left side of the screenshot you see the material plan for an item on the warehouse of a production unit. It has a planning time fence of 25 days. The production unit is closed for two weeks and based on the system calendar it sets the date to 2024-01-25.

The right side of the screenshot is the material plan for the same item in the warehouse of a distribution center. The item is distributed from the production unit mentioned above. In this warehouse the planning time fence is set to 27 days, but because the system calendar in this division does not have two weeks of closure the date for the planning time fence is 2025-01-14. I.e. it's earlier than for the PU even though the planning time fence is longer.

Is there any way to take the system calendar for the supplying warehouse into consideration when the planning time fence is calculated in MMS080? Otherwise we might release distribution orders with incorrect planned dates. From my investigation I have not seen that distribution calendars sorts this out.

Shouldn't the 'Demand' date in the Receiving Warehouse handle when the Distribution Warehouse is requested to send the Goods based on Leadtime between locations?

Well, if a customer order would be entered at the receiving warehouse within the planning time fence, then the MRP would generate a DO proposal for the end of the planning time fence (we use master scheduling). This DO proposal then generates an MO proposal at the supplying warehouse. If the planning time fence at the supplying warehouse is longer than at the receiving warehouse we are going to release the distribution orders with incorrect dates (i.e. too early in this case).

In the scenario above I had a planning time fence of 27 days at the receiving warehouse, and 25 times at the supplying warehouse. But because of a plant shutdown at the supplying warehouse the planning time fence date was later for the supplying warehouse than that for the receiving warehouse. So we are setting ourselves up for failure if our planners release distribution orders without manually taking the plant shut down into consideration.

Not sure if there's any workaround to this or if we just need to be aware that the planning time fences for the receiving warehouse might not be that accurate while there's a plant shutdown at the supplying warehouse.

Ooh, I see your point, this is for sure an interesting problem.

I'm surprised that MRP is not generating action Message(s) asking you to 'move out' your orders to match the MO Finish date however.
