Hello!
The UK government has introduced a plastic packaging tax for imported or manufactured plastics that requires keeping records of the tonnage of plastic that has been imported or manufactured. I found a highlight document from PWC that does a good job of breaking it down, but the main point is to to keep records so that a tax can be calculated. The tax is applied to packaging with under 30% recycled materials when there is more than 10 tonnes imported/manufactured within a 12 month period. It seems a similar scheme to the EU and other European Plastic Taxes that have recently been implemented.
The records here need to include information about the plastic packaging like:
- Packaging Material (plastic, aluminum, wood, etc.,)
- Sub-Material (HDPE, LDPE, PVC, etc.,)
- Type of Package (bag, box, etc.,)
- Total Packaging Weight
- Weight of Plastic Content
- Percent of Recycled material
- Size/quantity held
I'm looking at capturing this information in M3 to so the report can be generated, but since the data is so variable capturing the information in a manageable way is proving tricky. Most of the plastic considered is purchased in this context. I've looked at setting up different packages in MMS050 with cugex fields and then connecting to PPS040 and update on the PO where necessary but I think the variability in packaging information is too large to manage this way. I've also looked at building an attribute model, defining default values and then updating at PO entry and Receipt where necessary.
So to the group
- Has anyone looked into capturing this type information in M3?
- How are do you the data within M3?
Thanks!
