2024.04 New features

I have installed the new 2024.04 version and have played with the Excel Integration, New Dimension and new cube features in OLAP modelling.

Just looking at Excel Integration.

Below are a few comments and questions, following using this version.

1. New Excel Ribbon feature is very welcome, but it is a shame we still have to interact with the Taskpane in the same way.

2. Drill is a lot easier

3. Ad-hoc to slice - it would be good if the Report formula metadata rows were automatically hidden.

4. What do you need to do to install and use the Infor Cell styles functionality?

5. Writeback is still very clunky needing to keep the writeback window open. Once writeback cell type GET has been selected, why is there the need to switch it on and off?

Writeback should at least be left on 'til it is switched off and there needs to be an indicator to tell the user whether it is on or not.

6. Can you writeback in Ad-Hoc reports! (Can it be enabled?) If not you shouldn't be allowed to select writeback mode in Ad-hoc report (That is confusing)

 7. What is the custom setting for Splashing in Office Integration

here are some answers and some questions too:

ad1] And how would you handle the UI/wizards without task pane? Or how exactly would you like to interact?

ad3] The reason not hiding them automatically is that user can have side calculations/result next to the converted ad-hoc area and so we could hide all those as well and make it confusing. Later we will introduce custom data types and will get rid of these 'technical' rows and columns.

ad4] You can use them right away, you need to add this in adjacent cells UseStyles and TRUE (e.g. A1, B1) and then in INFOR.READ.SLICE you need to add one more argument referencing those cells (e.g. A1:B1) see picture below.

ad5] This is going to be improved/changed a bit in the future. To answer your question why - it was based on customer requests and the experience from the past. Some of the users are happy with this 'safe' approach, unfortunately some don't like it.

ad6] No, you cannot writeback in ad-hoc, yet. But there is some misunderstanding - WritebackMode is not per some area but for whole app. You can have in one sheet many INFOR.GET.VALUE formulas together with INFOR.READ.SLICE formulas.... so it actually should be allowed to turn on writeback mode. Moreover, we are going to introduce writeback in ad-hoc in the future.

ad7] Good point, it should be mentioned there. In case you don't know it is 'WritebackBehavior' and 1 means writeback without splashing and 2 writeback with splashing. Alternatively you can even use JSON format to define groups/users, please refer documentation.
