MSCM Upgrade
susan-kirkbride
Has anyone gone through an upgrade for MSCM? We've been told the downtime is 3 days but that seems unacceptable. We will essentially be upgrading from v9 to v10. Any information is helpful. Thanks!

We upgraded about a year ago and it was an over night thing. I am with you, 3 days is unacceptable. Did they give a reason for the lengthy timeline?

The longest outage we have had is 7 hours - and that is when IT has to go out and physically update all of the handhelds at our different locations - we are using them at three hospitals only and we have about 50 handhelds. And they like to do one hospital at a time.
Even when we moved our entire server and had to copy all our data I think it was less than 2 days - and that was a major move. It was down Friday night thru Sunday AM if I remember correctly.

We just upgraded 2 weeks ago from MSCM 9.0.1.2.13 to 10.1.4.7 and our downtime was 4 hours or less.
Legacy Contributor
Pam - we have figured out that we can upgrade our handhelds ahead of time (Friday afternoon) by pointing them to DEV and letting the cab file update then pointing them back to PROD to be ready for Saturday morning after the Friday night production upgrade. It has saved us a lot of driving around since we use handhelds at 6 different locations.

Great, thanks for the responses everyone. Now another question - did your IT department do the upgrade, or Lawson? If it was Lawson, is there a specific person you'd recommend? Thanks!
Legacy Contributor
Our IT department did the upgrade. It was fairly simple.
Legacy Contributor
Ours was done by the Infor Change Management team, and our IT team had one person on call if there were issues. We usually have a different Infor person each time.

We upgraded from 9.0.1.2.8 to 10.1.4.6 a month ago and it took about 2 hours (MPC, SIM, RAD). We don't use POU.
We have a device support department that created a build ahead of time during testing and they were able to push that out to the handheld devices - updated all of our handhelds (Dolphin, Honeywell 99EX) in less than 30 minutes.

I can't remember which version introduced 2 new files, but you'll want to be on the lookout for those: mscm.lhc.properties and mscm.ios.properties in addition to the mscm.filter.properties.
It took me a couple calls to figure out what to put in each of these.. but once that was done, the install went pretty smoothly. I'd say your down-time should be 4 hours tops.

We are actually planning our upgrade fromn V9 to V10.1.4.7 this weekend. We are planning for approx 3-4 hr downtime.
I do however, have a question about 10.1.4.7. Has anyone had any issues with this. We are seeing some strange error messages related to the printer mapping in user management section. Also a strange message in our mscm_server.log about Importing Users. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I see some of you are on 10.1.4.7 so I figured I would ask.
Thanks

I noticed that new users when added to Portal, were not coming across to MSCM, I opened a call with Infor a couple weeks ago. Turns out that the user sync runs about 10 times, and then stops - Until you re-start WebSphere. This is what got us to upgrade even further to 10.1.5.2 where the issue is said to be fixed.
This isn't a big deal (to us), we just understood that while on 10.1.4 anytime we added a MSCM user, we'd just restart WebSphere.
Legacy Contributor
Hi Todd - We saw these issues as well and we were told by Infor that they were known issues that were fixed in 10.1.5.1, so we waited until that was ready.
Legacy Contributor
We are just getting ready to start the upgrade from 9.01.2 to 10.1.5.1 in Test. I've heard the screens are really different .. is that true? Did you have to do a re-training of staff?
We have SIMS and MPC.
Legacy Contributor
They are very different and we've reported some issues with 10.1.5.1 (and 10.1.4.6-the version we just upgraded to) and are waiting for the next release in mid April. If you don't use SIM 10.1.5.1 seems fine.
We just sent out a screen print of the main page and added some features included in the 10.1.4.6 release. The 10.1.5.1 release includes additional ehnancements to SIM.
Legacy Contributor
Thanks Coleene .. we do use SIM, a lot... are the issues for SIM 10.1.5.1 something that are minor with some work arounds? Or are they major issues?
We need to upgrade soon so we have a supported version but I don't want to go to an unstable system either.

Here are some of the SIM issues we're waiting to be fixed:
1. When you add an exception, 1/2 and pass the tray, it still won't print. How does this work now if you have an exception?
Case 8362363 JT-712391.
2. Sterilization Load Results: Under Results - there's several "Undefined" values. Case 8362392 JT-731713.
3. Transfer Trays: Transfer is only working for 1 ASID at a time. You should be able to scan many at a time, then click done. Case 8362430 JT-733454.
4. Sub-Locations - sub location description is missing: Case 7968507 and JT-658101.
5. Map label printers: Map Label Printers to Workstations doesn't display the list of printers - box is small and not working properly. Case 8349797 JT-729773.
6. Item Management: 5 Issue - Searching for an Item - Go To Page works the 1st time, then blanks the page if you want to jump another 100 or so pages. Case 8349531 JT-729693.
7. MPC Reports - Operator Actiivity never finishes.
8. Sterilization - Actions - Results - put in Sterilizer Location and all info and click on Search and then click on Record Results - it takes you to the Load Results page, if you click on Content you will see all the items scanned into the load (make sure you have at least 25 items in your load) in our previous version of MSCM 9.0.1.2.8 when they printed it printed in Portrait which is what they want. Now in 10.1.4.6 if you leave it at Portrait it will not print out all of the pages and it leaves off some items. If you change it to Landscape they will receive all of the items but this cannot not be a long term solution. They should be able to print in Portrait as the when they assemble trays printing out Portrait works fine and is correct. The users cannot keep switching from Portrait to Landscape depending on what they are doing. Case 8403711 JT-738978.

One other thing to note on SIM if you're jumping from 9.0.1.2 to 10.1.5.x, the way images (both Item and Traylist) are stored and displayed is very different. We had to have Lawson provide a utility program to convert our images and the display isn't great but we're living with it. It's functional now anyway - after running their utility.

Coleene Dehner, Your comment "We have a device support department that created a build ahead of time during testing and they were able to push that out to the handheld devices - updated all of our handhelds (Dolphin, Honeywell 99EX) in less than 30 minutes. " What software do you use to push out the cab files?

Hi Maria, Here's the link to the software: Soti Mobicontrol

Okay we are now testing 10.1.5.2 and still see that same USER import error in our mscmserver.log. Here is the screenshot of the error. Anyone else seen this before? Infor is looking at it.
Legacy Contributor
HI All.. I had a ticket open with Lawson about version I should apply for our MSCM upgrade because of this forum. I gave them Coleene's list and they told me that all but #7 (MPC Operator Activity report) would be fixed in 10.1.5.3 which will come out the end of April.
We have decided to wait until that version comes before we jump to 10.x.
I'm so glad that I saw this forum though, otherwise we would rolling back.

I see that 10.1.6 is out now
Legacy Contributor
Coleene.... I just found out that 10.1.6 does not have all the fixes in it that you listed. I now see a 10.1.5.3 download available on the download site. Verified with support that 10.1.5.3 has all the SIM fixes and 10.1.6 does not have them all.

Hi Lisa, We downloaded 10.1.5.3 and have tested it. We had to open a few new cases with Lawson for this version. They're not show stoppers - just really annoying.
Administration-Label Management - Print Labels - Tracking Labels: Tracking Label is running off the bottom of the label - moves progressively down 1 line with each new label. Should report this to Lawson (although we don't normally use these labels) - Case 8615419
Administration-Vendor Management: viewed only, printed to 208. Note: we have 31023 pages and Go To box only allows up to 9999 (4 digits - needs to be expanded, report to Lawson) - Case 8615485
SIM Tray Assembly - Assemble Peel Pack: Label issue: Wrong Date, wrong user ID, traylist name runs over the barcode. Case 8619151 JT-779648
SIM Sterilization - View/Print Process: Sterilizer Location and Sterilizer dropdowns are broken - no dropdown. Case 8619494
Legacy Contributor
HI Colleen, We have been testing this as well and found a few of the same issues along with
Item Management/Bulk Load - throws a duplicate Manufacturer number error and requires you to change the Manufacturer number from Procurement before it will add into SIMS JT-796856 - this is a big problem for us since 99% of our items in SIMS are from Procurement.
SIMS Tray and Peel Pack labels - I had to customize them back to the 9.01 version otherwise the bar code is unusable and that's a shop stopper for us.
Search screens for My Parforms - doesn't show the correct data when you return back to the search results.
Assembly report - what does your SIMS staff think of that huge header on the first page now?? We asked if we could turn off all the extra fields if they are blank .. was told to put in an enhancement request...
Legacy Contributor
We installed 10.1.5 last week... have had issues with system locking up or handhelds not communicating anymore to database for SIMS. Found that a bad record was getting put in the sync table for case cart picking and it would stop the SIMS scheduler.. have a high ticket open with support so far we can't track what they are doing to cause this... Has anyone else experienced this?
Also does anyone use the SIM Case cart picking from the Desk top.. we can't seem to get this work and it has actually stopped websphere. Frustrated to say the least! Where is the quality control!!
