How does the Unit Type on the Organization Unit work? 

Is it basically built/created how a company/organization wants to use it to group Organization Units?

Is it connected to any specific functionality in GHR? 

How does your company/organization use it? 

I've tried to find information on Unit Type but it is always vague.  If we had real world examples it would help us determine how and if we are going to use it.  Thank you!

Commonly I see it used to help categorize organization units with values such as Unit, Department, Division, Service Line, Company etc. It can help define the structure of the organization - how org units roll up to the top org unit. I've seen unit type mostly leveraged or referenced in custom reports (report of all employees that are associated with Division X). Then there are Levels on the Org Unit Types. The Levels can help to define equivalency among like org units (for example, say you have a unit type of Division in this branch of the organization but in another branch of the organization that same grouping is called Service Line - assigning the same unit type level to both org unit types would allow you to indicate they are equivalent even though the language/terminology is different. These two attributes can work together to help organizations define a very unique organization unit hierarchy that matches their company.
