We migrated from Lawson to FSM in 2023. When we went through year end tax forms using FSM, we ran into some issues with vendor names and addresses in the tape file. We use MHC processing services to print and mail our 1099 forms. When we were on Lawson, we sent them output from the AP146 report that had all of the address fields in it. When we went to FSM, they use the IRS tape file instead. This caused address problems because of vendors who had long names or were using a DBA name as well.
Our vendor records were previously setup so that the first part of their name was in the Legal Name and if it extended past what Lawson allowed, we put that in Address 1 so it would look like it wraps on a check. If they had a DBA, we would put that in Address 1 or 2 depending on their name length and then their real address would start in Address 3. This worked good for checks, but in the 1099 tape file, it cut it off since there are only 40 characters for address.
Has anyone run into something similar and do you have any suggestions for where to put the long names and DBA information? We are playing around with putting it all in the Name fields since those are longer now, but have run into errors when printing checks if the name is longer than 75 characters.
