XRL on a an "XP Virtual PC" within Windows 7 32-bit environment
Legacy Contributor
trying to get 1.43 XRL working in this environment without much joy. It will install, but I get lots of errors (permissions, missing DLL's) when trying to create a basic Detailed Report.
It is part of a 2003 SBS system, and there are another 2 XRL users on the network (both on True XP).
Any help appreciated.
Gale.

same here. running on 64bit windows 7 and only issue so far is xrl cant create a pdf copy of the file. check user access control is off and assume you're getting the errors as admin as well.

The issue Gale is having isn't with Windows 7, it's with Windows XP. She's running XRL inside a Windows XP virtual machine which is hosted on Windows 7.
Gale did you install XRL as a user with at least local admin permissions ?

are both of you in a network environment or standalone?

i've got the support one on my 64bit laptop but a virtual pc copy with 1.3 running on xp.
Have you reset the permissions on the program filesxrl folder to everyone - full permission.
can you give us the first error message you get.

i'd be happy to get it running on Windows 7 - the user has Full permissions to the laptop and i followed the XRL installation as per the Vista instructions on 1.43
Error as follows:
Error -2147217900 Command contains unrecognized phrase/keyword.
Please check that database permissions and SQL Initialisation statement.
SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70
I click continue, and then get:
File not found: c:windowssystem32..Goappusr.dll
ok this, and ok to the Goappact.dll error,
then get Object Required
I then get the Detailed Form up for picking. The Prduct list (XRL and Opera II has Access Denied against the Opera II occasinally). I do not get a list of companies.
If I open up an existing XRL'd spreadsheet and recalc, I get "D is not a valid type. Company ID"
It is company D that it links to.

First off the Opera client *must* be installed because if it isn't then some files that XRL needs won't be there.
Secondly on Windows 7 whatever user you're logged in as needs full permission to the XRL folders., c:program filesxrl ot c:program files (x86)XRL if 64-bit, plus any parts that are under the AppData folder.

Hi Gale
The fix on supported environments is for the-2147217900 you have reported is as follows:
This error will occur normally if a previous version of XRL has been installed and is resolved by updating the Visual Fox Pro OLE DB Provider.
This information is currently included in the Vista steps on page 7 of the installation guide but will also fix for other operating systems (XP etc).
************************************************************************
Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider program needs to be updated to use version 9.x. An older
version of the file may already exist on the computer.
To Update the Visual FoxPro OLE DB Provider
1. Using Windows Explorer, click on the XRL CD image into the computer’s CD drive.
2. Copy the vfpoledb.dll file from the root of the CD image to:
c:program files > common files > system > ole DB folder.
Click Yes if a message is displayed asking whether the file should be overwritten.
If the overwrite is rejected, remove the original file from its original source location and then copy the replacement in from the CD.
************************************
I appreciate you have advised you have already followed the Vista instructions but it wouldn't hurt just to retry the above. Rename the original to .old so you have the original file as a backup.
Hope that helps

Thanks everyone - installed the client (think this is the only XRL install that they do not use opera) didn't think Opera was required for XRL....
