Using a Data source Override with LBI
unknown
HI .. has anyone successfully created a new Data source in LBI and use it to override the data source that was originally built on a Crystal report? If so can you give any tips on the setup you went through? Did you have to anything special on the LBI server itself?
We are moving to a new Lawson backend server and I thought I could use this function to point my crystal reports to the new Data base .. unfortunately this is not working.
Trying to decide if I just need to touch every LBI report we have and repoint and republish it.
Thanks!
Lisa

You would need to modify the data source in each report. However, if you are only changing the server name you can update the server, username, and credentials in the original data source. This will update where the reports look for data but will not require you to modify every report. You probably will have to restart LBI for it to take effect.

yes, we are using datasources in LBI-reporting services.
There we define the server/db/user + pwd to connect.
when we publish a new CR report.
we override the datasource with the defined datasource.
That is the only thing you have to do. You do not have to re-enter the user and pwd (if you do, it will not work, we had that...)

On the LBI server itself, you need to make sure the correct driver exists so that when Crystal runs, it can connect. Also, if you're using ODBC, you need to setup the 32-bit ODBC connection on the LBI server as well. That should match the DSN on the data source defined in LBI.
You should not have to touch every report, but you will need to define a data source in LBI for each type of connection used by your crystal reports (ODBC, OLEDB, Oracle, SQLServer, etc). The Override drop down only shows connections that are compatible with the one in the report.

You will also want to make sure that the user that you have running the Reporting Services service(s) has access to those databases and/or locations.
