firewall ports for XRL to connect to SQL SE

Hi, anybody know what ports I need to open on the clients & SQL / SE server (same box) to enable XRL to connect to the SQL database?

I've only opened 51999 thus far to get the SE client working. I know it's a firewall issue becuase I can oonnect when on the server desktop

I'm a little confused as usual. I have never had to set up a separate firewall rule for XRL to work. Although I have had a lot of fun with permissions.

When you say you can connect on the server desktop is this through the XRL Setup of SSMS ?

I know with one site I had to put in the sa user details (into the XRL Setup) as I couldn't get the Windows Authentication to work properly, the test connection just wouldn't work.

I'm not sure it needs any specific firewall ports opening, and it runs in the context of Excel I would have thought. So if you can for example go into the data tab and do Get DataFrom DatabaseSQL Server Database and pull data in from *any* database on the SQL Server, then it's not a firewall issue. Might be something like the SQL Server using dynamic ports.

I've been advised to open the following ports by Pegasus. When i'm in LSmaint and try test the connection to the *<SQL server><instance> the connection fails on the W11 PC. I've installed XRL on the server and run LSMAINT - connection works fine hence why I assumed it was a firewall issue

1433 TCP in & out

1434 UDP in & Out

135 TCP in & out

In the LSmaint are you using SQL or Windows authentication ? If you are using Windows I would be tempted to change to SQL and put in the sa details and see if this works.

Hi, now working after opening ports 1433,1434 & 134. I know these ports are documented in the SE install manual if you have the SQL & SE running on different servers but it's a shame they are not documented in the XRL install & setup manual for SE. would have saved me lots of time. Thanks Rick
