Accounting Window Allocation Application

Does anyone use the Allocation application (the one found under Accounting Window)? I am trying to split out separate P&L's within the same database. I would like to hear how people are using the Allocation application. Does it simplify or reduce duplicate PO's and AP vouchers? Is it stable? What examples of formulas can you give? Thanks
