I'm interested in learing about access to Visual through an API, is this what the COM objects provide?

As far as I know the COM objects cover only Visual 6.1.3 features and technology wise completely outdated. They are neither updated nor supported by Infor. I haven't used them in years, maybe something has changed in the meantime.
To answer some of the questions:
I am currently on VE 6.5.2 and they are part of the installation. There used to be a separate installation package but I don't know if this is still available. This installation package also contained some program examples on how to use them. I'm not aware that an API exists for Visual. I use a self writting C# library to access and manipulate data in the Visual database.
