“Phantom” or “Pass Through” Bill of Materials

We need the capability of creating sub assembly BOMs that can be added to a higher level BOM and then designated as a “phantom”. The desired result is that a work order and picklist for that higher level BOM would explode the sub assembly BOM parts and include them in the workorder and picklist along with the other higher level BOM parts.

We have a need to document and build these sub assembly BOMs to provide for Sales and Service but because of our BOM structure and size, it is more cost effective to maintain one level BOMs and workorders for the product manufacturing process. This is a fairly common feature in other MRP systems but I missed verifying this feature in Visual.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how I might obtain this capability?

Thanks for the information. This is something we are very interested in. The leg features currently in Visual do not work for us the way we would like. For example, if a leg subassy p/n is used in muliple BOMs, and a change is made, each place the leg is used needs to be updated. We also want the capability for the quantities of the same p/n used in the legs of a higher level BOM to be added together and be called out once on a picklist. I would expect that this is how a true phantom would work.

Would it be possible to review the general specifications of the phantom BOM enhancement to be added to the 7.0 release to find out if it will meet our requirements. I might also be interested in helping with beta testing if that would help.
