Avoid Opera client reinstall after Opera server move?
darrenm
Opera II user has 15 clients accessing Opera II V6 on current server.
We are moving the Opera system to a second server on the same network.
This means the UNC paths for Opera will change, though we will retain the mapped drive letters.
I know I could uninstall all the clients then reinstall them from the new server, but is there an easier way by editing settings on the client PCs? (to change the Opera server paths)

You could certainly change all the paths in Opera.ini and the Registry on each client. You could even change one PC then export the Pegasus registry key to a .REG file and then double click on it on each client to merge the changes in. But it still involves a visit to each client PC and if you're doing that you might as well uninstall the client and re-install from the new server share anyway.
In terms of moving the server part you have to install a new Opera II V6 on the new server and then migrate system, data, reporter, custom report layouts in from the old server as if you were doing a 4.x to 6.x upgrade. Otherwise it won't be in Add/Remove Programs and you'll never be able to upgrade it. But I'm sure you knew that

I agree with Alan, you have to reinstall opera anyway on the new server and not copy it so it is best to totally remove the opera clients and then re-run them from the new location or you will have issues with other applications such as xrl and future upgrades.
