MODI component - SBS 2011 without Office
unknown
Hi All,
Has anyone managed to get Content Indexing to work with SBS 2011?
From the install notes it says MODI component is required on server and client.
We don't want to install Office on the server and as SharePoint 2010 is installed so we can't install the SharePoint 2007 designer tools (which installs the MODI component).
Thanks,
Bhav

Hi, if its any help, we managed to get it working on a 2008 R2 server, but we DID install SharePoint 2007 to get the MODI component installed - dont know if you cant install them side by side somehow?. We DIDN'T have to install MODI on each client - the OCR is simply handled on the server itself (this was confirmed by Gateway). There are however a couple of settings you need to apply on the server that isnt mentioned in the install notes:
1) A folder needs creating in C:WindowsSystem32configsystemprofileDesktop
2) The documentation rightly states that MODI needs to be installed, BUT it needs added in the DEP settings part (right click on my computer>advanced settings etc. & configure as the below You need to add the two files for MSPSCAN & MSPVIEW & theses are in c:program filescommon filesMicrosoft sharedMODI12.0
I know this doest directly resolve your MODI issue, but the other two points stumped us for a while.
regards
James

Hi James,
Thank you for the tips and attachment, much appreciated :-) I'll put those in place.
Did try to install SharePoint 2007 but server said not allowed as 2010 is already in place.
