Using XRL 1.44 with Excel 2010

Though I understand that some users have XRL 1.44 working with Excel 2010, when I go though the steps in the install manual, no add-ins ribbon bar appears. So, I cannot use XRL.

Am using Win 7 64-bit, with Opera II 6.82.10.

For the record I have done the following:
- Installed XRL for the first time on the computer
- have NOT installed MDAC 2.8 as am using Windows 7
- Followed Step 3: Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008
- Since I could not find the file vfpoledb.dll which the manual said was on the XRL CD, here are details of my copy of this file: version 6.1.76.16385, dated 14/07/2009
- Used a copy of LsDatabase.mdb which worked under XRL1.43, and has a valid serialisation
- Installed the XRL Add-In via Excel File / Options / Add-Ins
- Set Macro Settings via Excel File / Options / Trust Cent:
(ticked) Disable all macros with notification
(ticked) Trust access to the VBA project object model

Any ideas please?

I have already noted nad progressed with development that the vfpoledb.dll be added back to the next release of XRL. Office 2010 is tested for all applications in 1.44 and OII 6.83 with the exception of Excel which I believe is being looked into for the next release. Having not seen 2010 myself I'm not in a position to advise you specifically on this - however on some installations on 2007 it is worth setting the security centre to have individual locations of the addin and lsdatabase file in there to prevent Office blocking it. You may also have to dig around in the options of this to ensure that "all addins blocked" is not enforced.
Regardless of your setup I should imagine Office security is the issue here.
I had exactly this issue today on a 7 machine, 2007 and 6.83

Thanks AlHarris. Unfortunately, XRL still is not working!

- I added as trusted paths the paths to the add-in and to LsDatabase.msb (File / Options / Trust Centre / Trusted Paths)
- "Disable all Application Add-ins" is unticked via the Trust Centre (File / Options / Trust Centre / Add-Ins

I wish I could find some more security settings which might stop XRL, but I am stumped. Those remaining would not I think stop operation without at least a message.

Hi David,

I've found that sometimes you need to manually add the add-in in to the applications Add-Ins. The file is c:program filesxrlLsAgXLB.xla. You can browse to it from XL Add-Ins.

Thanks mark.stuart. Have already done this, but I still get no Add-ins ribbon.

"Vision" is ticked in the list of Excel add-ins (via Excel File / Options / Add-Ins, then selecting to manage "Excel Add-ins"). Browsing again to LsAgXLB.xla, and selecting this a second time makes no difference. The Add-ins ribbon still does not appear.

Hi David,

Do you use Kaspersky anti-virus software? There is a problem with this or there was with earlier versions. It sees it as a virus and therefore does not allow it to run. If you are using it, trying disabling the anti virus and see if the menu appears then.

Hi,

Is your version of Office 64-bit? I believe there is a problem in 64-bit Office 2010 in that the add-ins do not load and the add-ins tab just does not appear.

I have had XRL working on windows 7 with Office 32 bit but we have experienced exactly the issue you are describing with Office 64-bit.

I don't have much further information myself as this was a message passed to me by a colleague and I haven't had a chance to investigate further.

I didn't think XRL was supported on 64bit yet?
As far as I know it's never worked - works on the 32bit version fine though.

Hi Debbie,

To clarify, Pegasus have tested and support the following with regard to XRL;

XRL Version 144 is supported with Windows 7 Professional 32bit & 64bit (not Office 2010)

XRL version 145 has been is supported with Microsoft Office 2010 32bit.

We do not support XRL with Microsoft Office 64 bit on either version of XRL and there are currently no plans to do so.

Surely Pegasus need to 'plan' for XRL to be supported in Microsoft Office 64 bit? I'm sure everything will be 64 bit eventually.

Unfortunately the restriction of the 64 bit for XRL is not one put in place by Pegasus.
XRL addin is a 32 bit application (which development have confirmed cannot be amended to run as 64bit) and as such, the Microsoft restriction in office 64 states that 32 bit addin applications cannot be used. As such XRL cannot and will never be supported for Office 2010 64-bit
I appreciate this isn't the answer you were hoping for but hope that clarifies why XRL cannot be used with Office 64bit.
