Update: Potential environmental problem causing Opera II to crash on Windows 7 Client when using Win
ayellapragada
Following the article in last week’s Support Update, we would like to update you further on this issue.
We would like to thank you for the amount and level of feedback you have given us, and in particular those of you that we have worked with closely in order to identify the environmental factor that is causing this issue. At this stage we are concentrating on the Server Messaging Block (SMB) function of Server 2008. It appears from our own and from Partner testing that SMB version 2.0 seems to be the cause of the crashes. To stabilise this issue, we have pursued changing SMB back to version 1.0, which appears to alleviate the crashes at this stage. We are working with Partners who have made changes on live customer sites and we are currently monitoring feedback on this potential solution.
If you have customers who have experienced this problem and are able to continue to provide detailed information and feedback, then please get in touch with us at escalationteam@pegasus.co.uk. We will continue to work shoulder to shoulder with our Partners and will keep you updated on our joint investigations via e-mail communications, the Infor365 homepage and Pegasus Communities.

Dear Carl,
Are there any further updates to this?
Kind regards,

Bhavesh,
We've a 30 user site that started to have corruptions to itran indexs once there were windows 7 pcs in the network. We've tried various and currently have them running smb 1 but have left oplocks ON and the corruptions haven't recurred.
It seems to be a record lock between two smb 2 users that causes the damage and although smb 1 is slower it is stable.

Hi Kiran,
Thanks for the reply and tips. What's Pegasus's position going forward with Win 7 and Server 2008?
Our customer runs Opera II on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit and a Terminal Server. I know they will find it difficult to accept that in order for Opera II to work they will have to make this change and reduce the improved functionality which Server 2008 64bit provides.
Additionally, at present we've had to move the data folder back onto their old Server 2003 so that they can continue working but the warranty on that server is due to expire very soon.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Good morning,
We have been undertaking considerable investigation and testing around this environmental issue. We did not want to communicate any ideas or suggestions unless we were confident in the information we are sharing.
Currently we have a number of sites testing our proposed solution which is to alter the SMB settings on the affected client machines only. Feedback so far has been good and subject to this continuing we will be able to offer further operating system tweaks to all concerned.
Many thanks for your continued assistance

Good morning Ben,
Thanks for the update. I don't know if the following is being included in testing but our customer doesn't have any Windows 7 machines. The errors are occurring with Opera II being used on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit and a Terminal Server. Altering SMB settings will not be well received as it'll reduce performance and also affect other software and services bring run.
Thanks,
Bhavesh

Afternoon,
We have a customer who seems to have just experienced this. They use Opera II in a virtual environment. It is installed on Windows Server 2008 and the users connect to a Terminal Server to use Opera II (also with Win Server 2008).
They have been using Opera II in this environment without any crashes for at least 4 months and yesterday/today they started to get 'Visual Foxpro has stopped working' messages. They also had an index corruption which had to be fixed.
I find it odd that it has been working to date and am wondering if any windows updates were installed that may have caused this. Their hardware team are investigating this.

Morning,
Does anyone know how to check which SMB is in use? Our customer is still having VFP crashes but their hardware company is telling me that they have implemented the changes to SMB as we requested.
Thanks,
Alex

Try going to
www.petri.co.il/how-to-disable-smb-2-on-windows-vista-or-server-2008.htm
Her it explains the registry key you need to have a look at.
cheers

Alternatively type the following into a command prompt on the machine in question.
sc query mrxsmb20
(for SMB2.0)
or
sc query mrxsmb10
(for SMB1.0)
