Upgrade Instructions call for deletion of DO directory

The upgrade instructions in the Facts77 installation manual call for the deletion of the DO files from the data.7x directory prior to running the upgrade.
If the DO directory is deleted, than how do we make sure that the custom files get into the Facts77 DO files?

Per an incident I filed with Infor, response was:
DO should not be deleted - just the .NEW files. It's an error in the install doc that we'll get corrected.
Waiting to here back from support/Tim if this applies to just 7.x and later or 6.6 and 6.7.
