Part Revision Control
d-catalano
We are in the process of establishing a new part numbering scheme and revision system, and I'm fishing for some advice and/or examples of what other companies do.
Here are a few questions:
1. When a part is revised with revision control, is there anything that forces a drawing change?
2. What is the functionality of the "Drawing #", "Drawing Revision", and "Drawing File" fields in the Config Mgt tab of Part Maintenance? Are those controlled by anything (such as ECN), or are they changed by the user as desired?
3. If a part is revised and the drawing is changed, is there any link to the previous revisions of drawings? For example, say that last year I built a work order with material at rev A. The material has since been revved up to B. The customer calls for a replacement part, we open the associated work order and see that it was built using Rev A, but the linked drawing is to Rev B. Is there any way to maintain links to drawings of previous revs so that we can provide the customer with an identical replacement part? Would it be better to use Document Reference?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We are in the same boat, we want to get document and revision control well controlled. There is quite a bit of information in the User Guide for Visual 7.0. I do know that the "Drawing File" will not print with the WO, but Document Reference can be printed--I tried it.

I'm not sure we're looking at the same user's guide. What chapter/section of the user's guide are you referring to?

Infor ERP Visual Enterprise 7.0.0 Manufacturing User's Guide, chap. 10.
Get it (and other Visual documentation) here:

We have the same issues with Manufacturing Engineering Masters and Work Orders as well as Purchase Orders and Inventory Transactions. And add to that revision control of process changes.
Are either of you using ECN and/or Quality and do either of those packages offer enhancements for configuration management for parts and processes, e.g.;
The actual revison level a part was purchased to
The actual production process revision level a part was made to
The actual revision level a part was sold to
I haven't read chapter 10 but thanks for the heads up. In the meantime Reset Part Info in Part Maintenance is a helpful tool.

Does anyone know how to get part revision to print out on the Packlist? I do not see it as an available field when editing VMSHPFM1.QRP in Visual Report Builder.
