Epic Item Management - Same Item, Different Supplier

Hi,

Those facilities that interface product information from Lawson to Epic, how are you managing items that are purchased from multiple vendors? For example, we get a box of suture direct for Covidien for $100. At times we can buy the same suture from a third party distributor that offers it for $50. We currently have two separate Lawson numbers for the same item for ordering purposes, but we have a concern with how to manage the items that are picked for cases and ensuring the right cost is charged to the patient depending on where the item was sourced from?

We do not have multiple vendors - the closest we have is Arthrex vs Red Medical - it was answered by Corporate Finance - the one they tied the charge number to won. That was the one in Epic for billing.

The other one was for ordering purposes only and is the higher cost one. The department justifies it to the CFO.
