Dashboard
unknown
While our company has lots of metrics, everything is reported at month end and through Excel. I would like to create dashboards using Visual. Any suggestions on software?

I used crystal. I did 21 crystal reports, and then dropped them all onto one report in summary fashion. We review the "dashboard" every week and preserve the detail in PDF.

Synoptix from Compusoft is what we use. You can throw dashboards together with thermometers, dials, graphs, etc, with drill-down capability that will actually drill into Visual if needed. You can also export data to Excel. If multiple reports are needed, you can group them into packets and just run one packet. I have a packet that runs 37 reports. The only downside of Synoptix that I've found is that when you are crunching large amounts of data (like summarizing labor hour for a year, which means having to query all the labor tickets for a year) it can bog down. But maybe that's the way it is for any SQL front-end.

With the release of the 10x program from Infor, they are talking about a whole new integration of reporting tools. If you are thinking forward to the future, you might want to utilize the next-generation tools they are developing.

What types of reporting are you using Synoptix for? I'm currently using it for financial statements and it works fairly well, however I'm interested to know what other types of reports you've built. We currently use crystal to extract other data we want to see.

I use Synoptix for all kinds of operations reporting. What is particularly powerful is the ability to create views (within Synoptix) that combine information from Sales Orders, Work Orders, Operations, Labor Tickets, and Requirements.
>>Average Engineering hours on Part X for last year.
>>List of all WO's and their progress through operations for customer X.
>>List of all jobs currently active for Customer X, with total estimated and actual hours and costs.
>>List of parts with their stocking positions, average use, leadtime.
>>Etc, Etc, Etc.
But I've often wondered how Crystal and Synoptix compare.

We are new to Synoptix and Visual.
Is it possible to see examples of how you list jobs currently active for a customer and the progress?
Thanks!
