FACTS 7.7 message balloon on menu

Asking on behalf of a FACTS 7.7 customer who does his own customizations and is HIGHLY customized. This customer still utilizes the old OA module for internal messages for various things.

Since the Infor menu system is protected code, does anyone know what conditions or variables are involved with turning the message balloon on the menus from white to green when a message has been sent to the user? Customer is reporting that, when he sent both an individual and group message, the recipient's message balloon did not change to green to indicate a message was received.

Per Donna at Infor, development is very busy trying to get 9.0 out the door, and Tim is also out, so I'm reaching out to see if anyone might know the answer. Thanks in advance!
