Estimating Window -- Adding Legs?
jboer
I worked for a civil contractor for 15 years before joining a precast concrete supplier. As a civil contractor, I needed quotations from the precast concrete supplier that was easy to follow. I didn't care about the individual part numbers. I trusted that I received a complete quote. Now that I work for the precast supplier, I am trying to streamline the process.
Example: Contractor has a project that needs quotation for a quantity of sanitary sewer manholes, storm drain manholes, catch basins, etc. Each of these contain a series of components; base, barrel sections, cones, cast iron, etc.
I can quote all the individual pieces rather quickly. But it's very difficult for the contractor to decipher which parts go to which bid item. What I've been doing is adding a quote item (for example "Sanitary Sewer Manhole #1) on the fly, and adding a "Line Spec" that clarifies what the item consists of.
Now, when it comes time to build the project, I need to move everything over into the "Order Management Window". However, since the bid was done in a "custom" fashion, I have to re-input all the parts.
What I would like to be able to do is this. Create a line item. Add a leg (or subordinate depending on your terminology) to that line item. That leg will be for the individual component(s) of that bid item. Then the "parent" line will have the total price for all the individual components in the leg(s).
Is there a way to do this?

Sound like you might be a candidate for the Project Module. Check out the first few pages:

Thank you. I will review this and reply with any questions. I have a co-worker looking at this as well.

Is there a demonstration available to illustrate what I am wanting to be able to do?
