New variable with new IPD designer version 10.1.1.29 - _activity_checkpoint

We are seeing this new variable in designer after upgrading landmark and designer to 10.1.1.29. Anyone have any experience or further information on this new variable - activity_checkpoint? We see it in start and activity node.

It is a new setting to speed up processing. I believe there is information on it on the Tech blog for IPA and in the release notes for IPA.
