Joanne,
looks like its available (click top left). implies after the hotfix you can use smb 2.0 without the corruptions.
has anyone tried it where the customer has currently had to revert to smb 1.0
Thanks

Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and more importantly Windows Server 2008 R2 incorporates this hotfix.
I just installed a site with the above yesterday, and server and clients are all on SP1 so we'll see what happens (I left SMB2 turned on).
Bearing in mind that SP1 is officially untested by the folks in Kettering.

Be interested to see if this improves the Speed on Windows 7 and is obviously stable enough to use.
We have still to get a workaround for the speed issues on Windows 7 /Server 2003/Server 2008 unless someone out there has the information to share?

Hi everyone.
I have written a short piece for the support newsletter due to go out shortly (please see below). As well as the SMB2 issues we are also running a project to look at the reported speed issues. Whilst this is underway it will be interesting to see if the updates Microsoft have provided will show a speed improvement - particularly as SMB2 can be re-enabled.
If you have any feedback please post it on here or send an email to escalationteam@pegasus.co.uk
Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
Recently Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. One of the fixes in this release addresses the issue of data corruption when multiple users perform read and write operations to a shared file in the SMB2 environment.
In August last year we had reports that this Microsoft issue was impacting on some Opera II and Opera 3 customers who were experiencing corrupt indexes in their data. Our advice to partners was to disable SMB2 allowing the system to fall back to using SMB1 which did not suffer from the problem.
Now that Microsoft have resolved the issue and included the hotfix in Service Pack 1 we have retested the issue here at Pegasus. We have found that after applying the patch there is no longer database index corruption of the Opera II and Opera 3 tables when using SMB2.
We suggest that you look to perform your own tests after applying the Service Pack to ensure that you are satisfied that the issue is no longer present in your customer’s data. If this is the case then your customers may want to re-enable the SMB2 protocol if required.

Can anyone confirm loading the service pack cured the corruption issue at their customer.
30 user Customer doesn't want to be a test site so will only turn it on if I can confirm other dealers have found opera now works on smb2 where it used to fail before the service pack was loaded

I have a 30-odd user site who recently went to Server 2008 and replaced half their machines with Windows 7 64-bit. SMB2 is *on* on this network and they have had no corruption issues.

Sorry I forgot to add that the Win 7 and Server 2008 are all SP1

Hello, does anyone know what the latest is on SMB2? Have pegasus approved the hotfix?
Thanks

The issues have been fixed by Microsoft in Service Pack 1 for both Windows 7 and Server 2008, so you should:
1. Apply Service Pack 1 to any Windows 7 PCs and Windows Server 2008 machines involved.
2. If you did the registry changes on the server to disable SMB2, undo those registry changes to re-enable SMB2.

Joanne,
Can confirm this is fixed at one of our large opera ii sites and make a big difference to netowrk performance.
Important thing is to ensure all pcs have the service pack otherwise you'll still get the damaged index message (easily fixed by a uds)

my site has regularly reported corruptions in itran - uds/rindex fixes. I have previously disabled smb2 on the 2008 server SP1 and Vista clients (not make a difference). They also have XP clients. Does this mean that, with XP being present, the whole n/w will drop to smb 1.0 ? or only the communication of xp/2008 hardware?
Just wondering if this is an SMB issue or something else. Only site i'm getting problems on and i have 2008/vista/xp sites.
