Deleting a user profile

Is there any detriment to the system by deleting a user profile of a former employee that we should be aware of?

none that I am aware of, just remember to run "fix synonyms and grants" after adding or delting a user.

We were taught to maintain a user called NORIGHTS with no rights. When an employee departed, we copied their profile over, so the employee still existed but had no access.
I cannot think of any reason why deletion should be an issue though.
