Win 7 clients not releasing / closing files when user exits Opera II
john-bottomley
Has anyone come accross this?
We have a customer where files are not getting closed on the Win7 clients when user exits Opera II.
This reults in Period End / Payroll Updates not running as Opera II thinks the files are in use.
Does not happen on XP clients.

Is this a terminal services or Citrix Server Environment?
I have seen this happening quite allot recently whereby users are not logging out the TS correctly and just closing the window resulting in blank lines being locked in SEQLOCK.
A reboot of the server will not resolve the issue and on first glance it will look like there are no blank lines in SEQLOCK but if you click on the deleted column in SEQLOCK and mark all the lines for deletion that are available to mark as deleted then PACK the table in VFP.
After this you will be unable to mark any more lines for deletion and you should be able to run a Period End, Payroll Update and Update Data Structures.
I hope this helps.

Hello
We have a customer who is having a similar problem to the above. They are not using a Citrix Server environment but most of the client machines are Windows 7. When a crash occurs, the user is unable to log back into Opera 3, they get a "too many users" message. Upon looking at the SEQLOCK table there is a blank line, with only the Session ID field populated. When you try and delete the Session ID, the table freezes and the line appears the to be locked. The only way to solve this is to get every user to reboot their machine. This has only been happening for the last couple of months, the customer is using Opera 3 v1.30.01 with Windows Server 2003.
Many thanks

We had a spate of this in a large hospital customer. Turns out one or more of the wards were closing Opera with CTRL-ALT-DEL. So a bit of user education solved that particular one.

Thanks for this folks
Users were usin TS session which had not been released
Nothing reported since that was cleared so monitoring now
Suspect as you say Alan it may be users not closing down properly.

Does anyone else have any update on this?
We have a customer who has recently upgraded their server to Windows 2008 with a mixture of Win 7 and Win XP computers. The correct service packs are in place for SMB2.
They have found they now have a problem with file locking. An example given today was that a user was trying to access Payroll Processing and could not 'another user has exclusive access'.
A different user had accessed payroll deduction profiles but was no longer in there. This user had to close out of Opera completely for the lock to be cleared and then the other user could gain access to payroll processing.
Thanks,
Alex
