EMAILS - SENDING THEM FROM INFOR
Legacy Contributor
Can anyone give me some advice on sending Invoices from Visual?
There is no option to do this in Invoice Forms and we need to send a batch of them all at once. We have been sending them by fax but our customers are now asking for emails.
Are people using some third party software to which acts as a 'virtual printer' to send batches of invoices?
We also need to send all emails from Infor either as PDFs or as part of the email itself rather than as an attachment. RTF does not work well with QRP reports and recipients can alter our invoices etc!

The easiest way would be to look into developing a custom app using c# or vb.net that ties directly into your live db. This will give you the ability to do it in a batch, grab customer email address automatically and attach as pdf or just generate html to send in an email. It would also give you the ability to set it up on a timer so you don’t have to manually trigger anything. To generate the pdf portion I’d recommend using SSRS and just call the web service available to generate the pdf then attach to your System.Net.Mail Message instance , or you can use the free crystal reports or any of the various free pdf generators for .NET The hardest part of this really would just be recreating your invoice print form, which shouldn’t be that difficult.

We use Visual Business Solutions Logicity Automatic Invoicing. Works very well for emailing invoices.

We use a third party application called Logicity Automatic Invoicing that we purchased through VBS that was developed by Saberlogic. It works great for us.

I'm not familiar with C# or vb.net or how I would go about using it.
I can create invoice forms in Crystal and then export or print the file to pdf (I have Acrobat V6 on my PC - which is rather expensive to give to all my users). However, I finish up with one pdf with 20 pages on it. How can I separate the pages into a group of separate pdfs and then email them (using fields within the pdf to pull out the email address for each)?
Sorry, what is SSRS and how do I 'call the web service to generate the pdf and attach to System.Net.Mail'. I'm not familiar with any of this terminology.
Is Visual Business Solutions Logicity Automatic Invoicing available through Infor - is it one of their products? Can you give me a rough idea of how it works with Visual Manufacturing?
Appreciating any help anyone can give.

Yeah if you don’t know any development languages you wouldn’t know how to call web services, so scratch my idea off the board. However you still might be able to use SSRS for pdf purposes. It is the Reporting Service built into SQL. It’s basically the same thing as crystal, but free if you have SQL installed.

Visual Business Solutions Logicity Automatic Invoicing is available through Visual Business Solutions (www.visualbusiness.net). They are a reseller of Infor Visual. Or contact Saberlogic directly (www.saberlogic.com) and ask for Adam Ellis or Tommy Hayes. Saberlogic has done a number of projects for us and they are very versed in Visual. I highly recommend them.

I will contact Saberlogic.
In the meantime, can anyone recommend pdf printer software which automatically opens the newly created pdf and allows you to send it as an email. This would help me send one off (ie non-batched) emails. I have Adobe version 6 at the moment. It will act as a virtual pdf printer but you have to go and manually open the file you create before you can send it.

We have been using PDF Mailer for years.

When emailing statements (and various other reports) Visual offers the option to create pdfs. I know this works by using the distiller in Acrobat. I have Acrobat 6 which does not seem to work. Has anybody successfully used Acrobat 6? The problem seems to be that there is nowhere in Acrobat 6 to select a default folder for output. Has anybody got over this by keying registries manually? Apparantly, Acrobat 7 does work but it is no longer available to buy. Does anybody know if Acrobat X still works?

Can anyone tell me which copy of Adobe Acrobat I need to buy to be able to email in pdf format directly from Visual? Is it Acrobat Professional, standard or what? Does version X work?

I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and have no problems. You would probably want to get the latest version.
