Windows 7
candice-brown
I have a FACTS 7.5 looking to add new computers with Windows 7 as a short term fix. I advised that Windows 7 is certified under FACTS 7.7, but they could run 7.5 on XP mode. Is there anything else I should advise or inform my customer about Windows 7 and FACTS 7.5?
Has anyone else ran into example?
Any information or advise would be great.
Thank you,
DK

We have several customers using Windows 7 (make sure it's the Professional version) as client workstations with FACTS 7.5. If they plan to use ODBC on those workstations, make sure they go with the 32-bit version.

I have used the 64 bit version of WINDOWS 7 / Vista.(though it may not be INFOR supported)
In order to configure the 32 bit version of the Providex Driver.
To access the ODBC utility, you have to use the back door.
%systemdrive%WindowsSysWoW64odbcad32.exe

I have no that NO special configuration is necessary -
for the FACTS 7.5 setup.
I have not had to enable the XP mode.

Marty, you are correct on accessing the ODBC utility via the "back door", but have you been able to use Excel 2007 or 2010 to actually pull in data from FACTS? I have not been able to "see" the FACTS database on my 64-bit client workstation from Excel 2010. Have you? If so, did you need to configure anything beyond the ODBC data source?

Another Microsoft Gotchya -
If you are using the Excel 32 bit then there is no issue.
If you are using the Excel 64 bit, then it cannot talk to the 32 bit ODBC driver.
AND you can use the 32bit Excel on 64 bit Windows.
I have done this in 2007 and 2010.

We had a user running 7.5 on a Vista or Win 7 PC (don't remember which as it has been several months). The user would intermittently (though more often than not) get "ProvideX has stopped responding" messages and the WindX session would still be running on the server.
What worked for us was to upgrade their PVX from 6.20 to 7.60 on all PC's and the server. We used the version 6 activation keys. The problem went away.
