Hi TomekL,
I am sorry, but I don't have any experience with migrating from CHAR to VARCHAR using the new porting sets.
In my previous company we hired a technician from Infor to do this conversion.
When I am correct (looking at your name) you can also contact S&T (former BEELC) in Poland to do this conversion. We used BEELC in the past for a lot of these issues. They are cheaper then Infor and personally I find them more dedicated. They are never in a hurry and take their time.
Hopefully this does help a bit.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for quick answer, previosuly i was working in S&T(former BEELC) 7 years
, but we had not got exeprience with conversion on BAAN5 to VARCHAR. Does this conversion in your previous company was done on BAAN5 ? Do you face some problems?

We did a conversion from CHAR to VARCHAR on BaaN IV, but I assume that the procedure is for most part the same.
We did not walked into troubles at all. For our 100Gb database the conversion could easily be done in a weekend.
